Opening Ceremony Highlights
The 1944 Olympic Games were canceled due to World War II.  Very few reports exist of the plans for the London 1944 games. It was assumed the ceremonies would be staged at Empire Stadium (Wembley Stadium) but the games never took place.  The 1948 games were awarded to London as well, without a vote, due to their suffering and triumph of the previous decade.
